Curatorial notes

Editor: This is Melchior Küsel’s "View of a Waterfall in the Aber See in Austria Two Leagues from St. AEgidi." It's a small print, but the landscape feels vast, almost dreamlike. What symbols do you see at play here? Curator: Waterfalls often symbolize purification, renewal, and the passage of time. The forest, too, is a potent symbol, representing the unconscious, a place of mystery and transformation. Do you sense a psychological journey in this image? Editor: I do, now that you mention it. The movement of the water is very compelling, and contrasts with the stillness of the trees. Curator: Notice also the path leading into the forest's depths. It could represent a spiritual quest or a search for hidden knowledge. The image invites us to contemplate the power of nature and our place within it. Editor: That gives me a lot to think about. Thanks!
