This is a design for a stained glass window with rectangular shapes, made anonymously. I am drawn to how the artist used simple watercolors, it’s like they're thinking through the process right in front of us. The colors are really muted, almost like a faded memory. There's this square of plain glass in the centre, surrounded by an ornamental border in greens and purples, divided up by these thick black lines that feel so assertive. You can almost imagine the lead that would hold the glass together. The artist uses the paint in a thin way that gives the colours a luminous quality, like light filtering through coloured glass. The whole thing feels like a conversation between geometry and decoration. It reminds me a bit of Hilma af Klint, in the way she used simple geometric forms to express complex, spiritual ideas. In the end, it’s about looking at the world in new ways.
