This drawing, created by Heinrich Wirich between 1575 and 1600, is a detailed design for a candlestick. The candlestick features a classic urn-shaped candle holder, a square base with a floral motif, and a long, slender stem decorated with intricate carvings. This design likely reflects the prevailing Renaissance tastes of the time, with its emphasis on classical motifs and intricate ornamentation. The drawing is currently part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

When the cat is away, the mice will play. The nude woman hands the key to her chastity belt to her husband, who is about to leave on a trip. The maidservant, however, stands at the ready with a spare key. Is the man next to her the lady’s lover? A jester vainly tries to keep fleas in a basket, a reference to the foolishness of the husband, whose hat resembles his fool’s cap.
