Thomas Bruun created this stage design from “Gorm den Gamle” with pen and wash. The sepia tones establish a somber, almost archeological atmosphere, hinting at a site of historical excavation. The drawing's architectural structure is articulated through linear perspective. The eye is drawn into a vanishing point at the back of the stage. Columns flank each side, constructing a structured entry that recedes into the cavernous space. These vertical pillars, linked by horizontal beams, create a rhythmic pattern reminiscent of classical ruins, overlaid with organic elements like creeping vines. The trees and grotto create a contrast that invites a semiotic interpretation. The man-made versus the natural establishes a tension between civilization and the primal past. The formal composition creates a dialogue between contrasting elements, inviting reflections on the construction of national identity and history, all within the theatre's controlled environment.
