Lino Tagliapietra's "Maracaibo" presents us with a visually striking form in glass, dominated by a warm caramel hue. The sculpture's silhouette is essentially ovoid, pinched at the top and bottom, with a horizontal band bisecting its girth. This band, in contrast to the smoothness of the upper and lower portions, exhibits a corrugated texture, offering a tactile variation that invites closer inspection. Tagliapietra masterfully employs the intrinsic properties of glass—its translucency and capacity for capturing light—to create an interplay of visual weights. The smooth surfaces reflect light in sweeping curves, accentuating the form's curvature, while the textured band scatters light, adding complexity and visual interest. The artist's approach destabilizes conventional notions of symmetry and expectation.
