In Memory of Dr. Leon Gosselin (1815–1887), President of the Academy of Sciences 1888

Louis-Oscar Roty created this bronze plaquette to commemorate Dr. Leon Gosselin, who died in 1887. This piece exists within a tradition of memorial art, but it also participates in a moment of celebrating the achievements of men within the scientific community. Gosselin's identity is clearly articulated through the inscription, which lists his titles and affiliations, highlighting his importance as President of the Academy of Sciences.
