This lithograph, *Water in bos*, was made by Simon Moulijn. What’s compelling to me is the stark contrast between the light reflecting on the water and the dark looming trees. It’s moody, but not overwhelmingly so. I imagine the artist standing there, looking out at the scene and feeling the calm of the water. I wonder what it was like for Moulijn to create it, what he might have been thinking as he built up the image with layers of lithographic ink? The reflection in the water almost mirrors the trees above. Notice how the light and dark tones create a sense of depth, as if you could step right into the forest. I love the way the artist captured the feeling of being in nature. It's a reminder that art can transport us to different places and evoke different feelings. It shows how artists are in an ongoing conversation, exchanging ideas across time, and inspiring one another’s creativity.
