Seong Moy made "The Royal Family" with woodcut and printing inks. I wonder what it was like for Moy to carve into the wood, each cut a deliberate act that would define the forms and figures, thinking about his own family perhaps. The print has a color palette of muted greens, reds, blues, and blacks, creating a harmonious balance between the figures and the background. The artist's hand is evident in the way the colors are laid down, with each block of color carefully placed to create depth and movement. I'm drawn to the expressive black lines that seem to dance across the surface, adding a sense of energy and spontaneity to the composition. It reminds me of other expressionist artists, who weren't trying to capture reality, but an inner emotional state. When we look at art, it is never really finished and always continues to spark new thoughts, feelings, and interpretations.
