"Rider [center of a triptych of Three Scenes of Autumn Evening]" is a hanging scroll painting created by the Japanese artist Sumiyoshi Gukei in the late 17th century. The scroll depicts a lone rider on horseback traversing a snowy landscape, and is the central piece of a larger triptych. Gukei, who lived from 1631 to 1705, was known for his delicate and refined brushwork, which he utilized in this artwork to evoke a sense of solitude and tranquility in the snowy scene. This artwork is a prime example of the elegance and sophistication of Japanese art during the Edo period. The scroll is currently housed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
