This is a necklace made out of silver and turquoise made by a Navajo artist. It’s hard to know when, exactly, but it doesn't even matter because its beauty is timeless. Imagine the artist carefully selecting each bead, feeling its weight and coolness, and then stringing them together. Each sphere is so perfectly imperfect. Look closely, and you can see the individual marks of the artist’s hand. The silver catches the light in a way that makes it seem alive, like water rippling in a stream. And then there’s the turquoise. Those little pops of blue are like the sky peeking through the clouds. I wonder if the artist thought about the relationship between the earth and the sky as they created this piece? The way they set these stones is like a little song to the land. I see a connection with other jewelers who work with metal and stone. There’s a shared love for these materials, a deep respect for their inherent beauty, and a desire to transform them into something meaningful.
