The Lamb 1670

Adriaen van de Velde's "The Lamb" (1670), a black and white etching, depicts a ewe and lamb in a simple landscape, with a small pig resting in the foreground. The artist was known for his meticulous depiction of animals and this piece is characteristic of his work, showing a sensitivity for the creatures’ anatomy and a natural world. Van de Velde, a Dutch Golden Age artist, produced a number of etchings and drawings of animals which capture the beauty and grace of nature.
