Jim Goldberg made this photograph, Psycho and Wolfette, using gelatin silver on paper. It’s a raw, grainy black and white image, almost like a snapshot snatched from the shadows. I can't help but wonder what Goldberg was thinking, turning his lens on this intimate moment by the door. You know, it feels like Nan Goldin's work, but grittier. More like a document. The composition itself is unsettling, as if we're intruding on something vulnerable and volatile. The tight embrace juxtaposed with the cold, industrial setting—the peeling paint, the metal fixtures—it’s all so emotionally charged. How does he make love look dangerous? He probably got in real close with a wide angle lens to get this shot. It's a real feat. It reminds us that artists are always in dialogue, picking up where others leave off, pushing boundaries. And that photographs, like paintings, can hold a multitude of truths.
