Fritz Syberg made this drawing, Saa kom den ud i den store Mose hvor Vildænderne boede, with what looks like a dark ink on paper. The frantic, scribbled lines feel like they’re chasing after a feeling. I can almost see Syberg, out there in that big swamp, trying to capture the bigness and wildness of it all. He’s using these marks to find a rhythm, like a musical score. And those slashing lines in the sky – are they clouds or some kind of electric energy? You know, it reminds me of Van Gogh’s landscapes, that same kind of swirling, emotional intensity. Maybe Syberg was looking at Van Gogh and thinking, yeah, I want to get some of that feeling into my work. There’s this conversation happening, across time, between artists, where they riff off each other’s ideas and ways of seeing. And the thing is, it doesn’t have to be clear or defined. It’s more about the feeling, the gesture, the way the ink moves on the page.
