This ‘Baby Carrier’ was made by Ge-jia Miao, and it’s just bursting with tiny patterns in dark reds and purples. It’s as if the artist built this thing up, stitch by careful stitch, letting the image emerge slowly, intuitively. I’m wondering, what was it like for her? Sitting there, hours on end, coaxing these intricate designs into being? Like a painter, but with thread. Each little gesture, each repeated shape, it’s all so deliberate. You know, the way she keeps echoing those square spirals, how they dance across the fabric? I can just feel her hand moving, thinking, deciding. It makes me think about all the women artists who came before me, all those hands that stitched, sewed, wove, each one adding something to the conversation. It’s like we’re all talking to each other, across time, inspiring each other to push further. And that’s the thing about art, it’s never really finished, is it? It just keeps going, morphing, changing, offering something new each time you look.
