This "Tavern Table or Refectory Table" was made by Louis Annino at some point, using what looks like watercolor on paper. The real subject here is color—how the artist coaxes a full world of darks, lights, and browns out of the humble materials of watercolor. There's a warmth in the wood tones, like it has been kissed by the sun. I'm really drawn to the bobbin legs and how each one catches the light differently. The artist plays with depth, with some areas fading almost into the background. It reminds me a bit of Giorgio Morandi’s still lifes, not just in subject matter but in the way it transforms something ordinary into something quietly profound. Like Morandi, Annino embraces ambiguity here, leaving the table open to endless interpretation.
