This untitled work, made with printmaking by Luciano Bartolini, has the kind of dark and moody palette I often find myself using. The deep blues and blacks create a sense of depth, like looking into a night sky, and that splattering of white feels like stars, or maybe cells under a microscope. Looking closely, you can see the texture – the way the ink sits on the paper, not quite smooth, with little bumps and ridges. There's a real physicality to the medium. It’s like Bartolini was building up layers, letting each one dry, and then coming back to add more. It’s about the process of layering and building up an image, as much as it is about the image itself. The overall feel reminds me a bit of Antoni Tàpies, that idea of digging into the surface and finding something hidden underneath. Art, for me, is about embracing that ambiguity, understanding that there’s no single right way to see things.
