Moriz Jung's Greyhound is a small print, made with woodcut on paper. I like to imagine Jung in his studio, maybe in the early 1900s, carefully carving the block of wood. Look at the way he uses lines, almost like a drawing, to capture the dog's lean, elegant form against an ornamental backdrop. It's a mix of naturalism and stylization that feels very personal, like Jung is letting us into his own little world. The patterns in the background, with that blue-green color, give the image a kind of dreamy, imaginative quality. I find it fascinating how artists like Jung, working in different times and places, still manage to speak to each other through their art. There's something universal in the way they capture the essence of a subject, whether it's a dog or an abstract idea. For Jung, the act of carving and printing becomes a way of exploring the world and sharing his unique vision with us.
