Friedrich Brentel's "Trojas brand" (1626) depicts the dramatic scene of the burning of Troy. The painting, housed in the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst, portrays the Trojan hero Aeneas carrying his father Anchises as they flee the city, followed by other fleeing citizens. The fiery inferno dominates the background, casting an ominous glow over the scene, while a river cuts through the burning city. This depiction of the Trojan War, a major subject in classical literature, would have been instantly recognizable to Brentel's contemporaries.
