J.F. Clemens’s *Illustration. En konge med løftet dolk og tre personer i en båd*, a black and white engraving, shows a dramatic scene of a king standing in a boat, holding a dagger aloft. He is surrounded by three other figures, two of whom are seated in the boat and appear to be pleading with him. The scene is set against a dark backdrop of a stormy sea, a fortified castle, and a cloudy sky. The composition of the image is dynamic, and the figures are rendered with great detail and emotion. The engraving, completed between 1748 and 1831, is a powerful example of Clemens's skill in representing narrative through visual means. The artwork is currently held at the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst.
