Paperweight c. 1845 - 1855

This "Paperweight" from c. 1845-1855, made by the Compagnie de Saint Louis, is a fine example of millefiori glasswork, a technique popular in the 19th century. The paperweight features a vibrant red glass base with a multi-colored floral design in the center. The intricate design is created by fusing together rods of different colored glass, which are then sliced and arranged to create the intricate pattern. The paperweight, currently housed at The Art Institute of Chicago, showcases the artistry and technical skill of the Compagnie de Saint Louis, a prominent French glassmaker.
