This is Paul Cézanne’s *Still Life with Blue Bottle* – a watercolour painting made at some point in his career. Isn’t it funny how Cezanne uses watercolour, a medium known for its lightness, to explore weight and form? Look at the way he layers the washes of color, building up these objects bit by bit. The apples, the sugar bowl, the blue bottle – they almost feel like they’re emerging from the background. There's a real sense of touch in the way that each object is brought to life with dabs of color, like he's feeling his way around the forms. See how the lines bleed into one another, creating this sense of atmosphere? I'm reminded of Morandi, an Italian painter who spent his life making simple still lives, exploring the potential of form. Both artists, though working in different styles, remind us that art can exist in a space of ongoing dialogue and endless reinvention.
