This silver spoon, made by the Wiener Werkstätte, is all about process. It's not trying to hide how it was made, not trying to be too precious. It’s got this kind of honest, worn feel. Look at the surface; you can see all the little marks and imperfections, especially at the far end of the handle. It's like a map of its history, all the bumps and scratches. The spoon’s surface almost reads like one of Cy Twombly's paintings. The way the colour shifts from silver to gold in the bowl of the spoon gives it a warmth and depth that contrasts with the cool, industrial feel of the metal. It makes you think about the human touch, the hand that shaped it, the food it served. The Wiener Werkstätte was a community of artists and designers, just like the Bauhaus. They wanted to bring art into everyday life, make beautiful, functional objects for everyone. This spoon is a humble example of that ideal. It invites us to appreciate the beauty in the ordinary, in the things we use every day.
