Konstantin Bogaevsky made this painting "Morning" at an unknown date, and now it hangs in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Look at how he's built up the whole scene from tiny touches, like a pointillist but with less science and more dreaminess. The colors are muted and blended, a sort of hazy golden light bathing the whole landscape. You can almost feel the stillness of the morning air. I love the way the paint is applied, not trying to hide the process, but letting each stroke contribute to the overall texture. It's like he's building up the scene from a million tiny atoms of color. See how the trees in the foreground are defined by these small, almost scribbled marks? They give the painting a sense of movement and life, as if the leaves are rustling in a gentle breeze. It reminds me a bit of some of the early Impressionists, but with a touch of something else, maybe a bit of Symbolism thrown in for good measure. Like they say, art is always a conversation.
