Francisco Larez made this mixed-media artwork, LXXVII-F, using a process of layering and excavation. See how the rough texture and earthy tones give it a sense of age, like an ancient fresco discovered in the ruins of an old building? The surface is built up with different materials, creating a tactile quality that invites you to reach out and touch it. The blue rectangle in the center is like a window, or a tear, that reveals a hidden depth beneath the surface. Now, look closely at the edges. Do you see the frayed fabric and delicate lines that seem to unravel into the surrounding space? It's as if the artwork is in a constant state of becoming, never fully resolved, always open to change and decay. Larez's work reminds me of Antoni Tàpies, in the way it treats painting as an exploration of material and time, embracing imperfection and chance. It's a reminder that art, like life, is a process of constant transformation.
