CEil et lèvres 

Painted by Salvador Dalí, *Ceil et lèvres* presents us with a disorienting, dreamlike convergence of the mouth and the eye, set against a backdrop of the sky. The eye, traditionally a symbol of perception and knowledge, is here framed by lips, which are often associated with speech and sensuality. This conjunction reminds us of the ancient symbol of the all-seeing eye, found in various cultures, representing divine omniscience and insight. Yet, Dalí distorts this symbol. He merges the act of seeing with the act of speaking or perhaps consuming, creating a powerful emotional tension. This fusion suggests the Freudian concept of the oral stage, where the mouth is the primary source of pleasure and interaction with the world, thus imbuing the image with a sense of primal desire and anxiety. In this surreal juxtaposition, Dalí taps into a deeper, subconscious level. The painting reminds us that these archetypal symbols are not static but are always in flux, evolving and re-emerging in new forms across time.
