This throwing knife was made by the Ngbaka people; you can see how the sharp edges and points create an almost sculptural form. It’s a pretty wild shape, isn’t it? I think the way it plays with balance and asymmetry is just fascinating. The cool tones of the metal give it a sense of distance, while the woven fiber handle adds a tactile, human touch. There's a real dialogue here between the practical and the decorative, the functional and the symbolic. I love how the textured surface of the metal contrasts with the smooth lines of the design. Each mark, each imperfection tells a story. It reminds me of some of the abstract sculptures of artists like Picasso, who also took inspiration from non-Western art. But, of course, this knife has its own unique history and cultural significance. It’s a beautiful object, full of mystery and possibility.
