Carl Buergerniss made this painting of a sabre, probably with watercolor or gouache on paper. It's so precise, almost like a technical diagram, but with an artist's touch. I imagine him carefully studying the object, trying to capture every detail, the way the light hits the metal, the texture of the handle. He's really trying to understand how things are made, how they work. The artist is all about close looking, slowing down time. It reminds me of how I feel sometimes when I'm painting, lost in the details. The painting feels like a conversation, and I am part of it. There's a sense of exchange. We are here looking, talking, and thinking. I think of art as a continuum, as a conversation over time. We’re all in it together, riffing off each other, and making something new.
