This Footed Jar is an example of Maya pottery from the Classic Period (250–900 CE). The jar is a brown color and decorated with incised designs. The patterns on the jar are pseudo-glyphs which are symbolic, but not true hieroglyphs. This style of design would have been common in the Maya region of Mesoamerica, and its shape and decoration would have made it a valuable and beautiful object in its time. The jar is now housed in the Art Institute of Chicago.
