Editor: This is León Ferrari's "Board," a work of an unconfirmed date, housed at the Tate. The tightly-packed marks almost vibrate on the paper. What am I looking at here? Curator: Considering Ferrari’s broader body of work, could this be a commentary on systems of power and control? Think about how minute gestures can collectively form rigid structures, mirroring societal hierarchies. Editor: I see, a kind of visual representation of bureaucracy or surveillance, perhaps? Each mark an individual under scrutiny? Curator: Precisely. And given Ferrari's Argentinian background and his activism against authoritarian regimes, how might that inform your interpretation? Editor: That gives the piece a whole new layer. I now see it less as abstract and more as a powerful social statement. Thanks!
