Edvard Munch made "Kragerø Om Våren", with oil on canvas. It's really tempting to think about him wrestling with this painting. Look at those brushstrokes! The surface is a riot of blues, greens, and earthy oranges. It feels like Munch was trying to capture the raw energy of spring, that feeling of everything bursting back to life. I can almost feel him standing there, the paint thick on his brush, making these bold, urgent marks. Those diagonal strokes across the foreground feel like gusts of wind. That little cluster of houses nestled in the hillside—it’s like he’s painting the feeling of home, or maybe the yearning for it. Munch's work is all about expressing inner turmoil, but here, there's a sense of hope, even joy, pushing through. Artists have always learned from one another, riffing on each other’s ideas, challenging and inspiring. It’s like one big, messy conversation across time. It’s exciting to think that my paintings can participate in this conversation.
