This poster, Mentor-La Grande Parade, was made for a 1970 show at the Galerie Drouant in Paris. The image is just bursting with a real carnival of characters and colours. I love imagining the hand that held the crayon, pressing down, making these marks—shifting, correcting, and feeling the texture of the paper. What was the artist thinking? Maybe they were trying to capture the energy of a parade, the kind that bursts with life and music? I think they were trying to do something special. Look at the colors, the way the reds, greens, and golds sort of vibrate together. And then there's that face with the big moustache, so sure of itself. You can see the artist really getting into the physicality of the medium, creating something that's not just seen, but felt. It reminds me of the work of other painters who aren't afraid to play, to let their intuition guide them. It's like they're all in a big, ongoing conversation, pushing each other, inspiring each other to see the world in new ways.
