Fred Eversley made this sculpture, "Centrifugal," from cast resin. It's like a Möbius strip but with a twist of its own, inviting us into its endless loop. The surface is smooth, almost glassy, letting light dance and play. I'm drawn to how Eversley coaxes such fluidity from a solid material. There's this interplay of color, too, where the edges darken and the interior catches the light, creating a sense of depth. I get a feeling that this piece has a sense of movement, despite being completely still. It reminds me a little of some of Eva Hesse's resin works, where the material itself seems to have its own agency. Both artists embrace the unpredictable nature of their chosen media. Eversley's "Centrifugal" reminds us that art is always a conversation, a dialogue between the artist, the material, and, of course, the viewer.
