Fred Eversley created this resin sculpture, Centrifugal, sometime in his long career. Imagine the process of pouring resin into a mold, waiting for it to set, then carefully polishing it to a shine. You know, it makes me think about the way paint can pool and settle on a canvas. Eversley was an engineer before becoming an artist, and you can see that precision in the curve of the parabola. I wonder what he was thinking as he made it? Maybe he was thinking about speed, about things spinning out of control, or maybe about some hidden kind of perfect equilibrium. And the colors! Amber, honey, burnt sugar. At one point a flame. I love how it seems to capture and reflect the light. It’s like looking into a sunset or a piece of candy. I’m also reminded of Roni Horn’s glass sculptures, they share that smooth, translucent quality. It’s all part of this long conversation between artists, playing with perception, and bringing new perspectives into the world.
