Editor: Here we have an untitled photograph by Lucian and Mary Brown, showing a man and woman on some steps. The mood feels…theatrical, almost like a scene from a play. What do you make of it? Curator: It’s the “on steps” that really gets me. All those lines leading somewhere, or maybe nowhere? It’s like life, isn't it? Plus, the man's holding a glass, perhaps he's saying something terribly witty, or maybe it's just a bit of an illusion? What do you see in their faces? Editor: I see a story, definitely. A sort of unspoken tension or maybe an inside joke? I hadn't thought about the lines of the stairs leading anywhere! Curator: Exactly! And that’s the beauty of art, isn't it? It leads us to places we never expected to go!
