Here's a drawing of a Kangaroo, by Gordinne, made using ink and watercolor on paper. I love the way this piece captures the kangaroo's kind of awkward elegance. I can almost feel the artist figuring it out stroke by stroke, trying to capture the weight and the strange balance of the creature. You can see them experimenting with thin washes of watercolor to build up the form, then adding sharper ink lines to define the edges. Look at how the artist added little dots over the animal, creating a feeling of depth and texture. It reminds me of some of the early natural history illustrations, where artists were trying to document the world around them with a mix of scientific accuracy and creative interpretation. It’s like Gordinne is saying, “Here’s what I see, here’s how I understand it, and here’s how I feel about it.” And that, to me, is what art is all about - a constant conversation across time and space.
