This porcelain group, created by the Frankenthal Porcelain Manufactory between 1768 and 1778, depicts the historical scene of Tomyris, Queen of the Massagetae, with the severed head of Cyrus the Great. The piece is a fine example of Rococo-era porcelain production, showcasing elaborate details and colorful, patterned clothing. The group illustrates the biblical story of Tomyris's revenge against Cyrus for killing her son. This work is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
