Pekka Halonen made this still life painting with oils at an unknown date. Look at how Halonen built up the image through layers of brushstrokes. You can almost feel the energy of his process, like a dance between intention and improvisation. The surfaces in this painting are so alive with texture. The thick, opaque paint suggests a real, tactile presence. See how the light catches the edges of the objects, emphasizing their volume and form? Notice the bottle of water placed on the tray in the foreground. The brushstrokes here are looser, lighter. Halonen seems to be reveling in the transparency of the glass and liquid. It’s as if he's saying, "Here's how I see the world, in all its messy, beautiful detail.” It reminds me of Manet, who also had a knack for turning everyday objects into something profound. Art's not about having all the answers, it's about the questions we ask along the way, and about embracing the beauty of not knowing.
