Editor: This is an untitled photograph by John Deusing, showing two houses and what looks like construction in progress. The stark contrast gives it such a strange, almost dreamlike quality. What do you see in this piece? Curator: The image speaks to the enduring human desire for stability and permanence, doesn't it? The houses, repeated, become almost archetypal symbols. The construction itself represents not just physical building, but perhaps the construction of memory, identity, and community. Does the unfinished state evoke a sense of hope or anxiety for you? Editor: I think it’s both, actually, a sort of in-between space. Thanks, I hadn’t considered the symbolism of the ‘building’ itself. Curator: Indeed, the visual symbols are rich with cultural echoes. I find it incredibly thought-provoking.
