Mariam Aslamazian made this painting of wild flowers from Hanqavan with oil on canvas. It feels like she put the painting together petal by petal. The marks are small and intentional, building up this big bouquet. I can see the traces of her hand and brush, how they moved together to make each flower have it’s own little personality. Those daises at the bottom really stand out. The white petals look like halos around the golden yellow centers. I imagine Mariam standing in the fields of Hanqavan, collecting these flowers, carefully arranging them in a vase in her studio. I wonder if she felt a connection to the land as she painted, trying to capture its beauty and wildness in her art. Painters are always talking to each other across time, aren't they? Each brushstroke is like a little thought or feeling passed down through generations. When you stand in front of this piece, what does it tell you?
