Here's a little lapel pin made for a promoter of the Dutch Christian Radio Association. I can imagine the process of making something like this involved many steps, a collaboration between a designer, an engraver, and maybe someone to add the enamel. It feels like a small gesture, but one intended to signal something larger, a shared belief or affiliation. The enamel is applied to give the badge its distinctive blue color, a symbolic hue, perhaps, evoking trust and faith. When I look at it, I think about all the things we wear to show our allegiances, the subtle ways we communicate our values through objects. There’s a whole language embedded in this little object: the choice of colors, the typography, the imagery. It makes me think about other artists, like Corita Kent, who used design and typography as a form of activism and expression. In the end, artists are always in conversation, repurposing and reinterpreting ideas across time. This lapel pin reminds us that even the smallest objects can carry significant cultural and historical weight, opening up a space of contemplation and possibility.
