Editor: Here we have Charles Pears' "Transport by Sea: Supplying the Navy." It's a monochromatic image, very active with the waves and sky. It strikes me as rather ominous, actually. What's your take on it? Curator: Ominous is a perfect word. Look how Pears uses these frenetic lines to depict the roiling sea and sky. There's a sense of urgency, of industry, but also of vulnerability, wouldn't you agree? The zeppelin hovering above feels almost predatory. Editor: Yes, definitely vulnerable. It's like they're being watched. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure! It makes you wonder, doesn't it, what secrets those waves hold?
