This necklace was made by Alexander Calder, using wire to create jewelry. I imagine Calder in his studio, bending and shaping the metal with pliers, almost like sketching in three dimensions. I see rows of flat, hammered rectangles radiate outward, creating a burst of energy, like sunshine. And then, a series of tiny spirals dance around the inner circle, adding another layer of playful movement. It’s tempting to imagine the touch of the maker: the hammer marks, the slight imperfections in the wire… It’s so obviously handmade. Calder, of course, is most famous for his mobiles, but this necklace reminds me that his entire practice was about exploring space and motion. It's all interconnected, you know? We’re all in conversation, all the time, pushing and pulling, inspiring each other to see the world in new ways.
