Curator: Alexander Cozens’ “Coast Scene with Town on a Cliff and a Ship” presents a monochromatic landscape, rendered in what appears to be sepia ink. Editor: It feels like looking at a memory, hazy and warm. Is it just me, or does this little scene evoke the smell of salt and distant bonfires? Curator: Cozens, active in the 18th century, explored landscape not as pure representation, but as a study in composition. He was known for his "blot" technique – using accidental ink splatters to inspire landscape forms. It raises questions about labor, skill, and chance. Editor: Accident leading to intention! That resonates. It's like those days when you start with a doodle and end up with… this wistful little world. Curator: Indeed. It really challenges notions of artistic skill and intention, doesn't it? Editor: Absolutely. Makes me want to embrace the happy accidents in my own work!
