Victor Vasarely made this, what I think is a painting, titled Cheyt-Bela. The way Vasarely sets up the colors and shapes, it's all about creating this super cool, like, 'is it flat or is it popping out at me' kind of vibe. It’s like he's playing a game with our eyes. When you look close, you can see how each little cube is carefully painted with flat colors. It’s not about thick strokes or fancy textures. Vasarely makes a surface that feels super smooth and almost machine-made. There's one spot, where the blue and gray cubes come together, that feels like the whole thing is either about to burst or maybe it's collapsing in on itself. It's all optical illusion, but it gets you thinking about how even simple shapes can trick the eye and mess with your sense of space. You know, this reminds me of some of Bridget Riley’s work. They both get you questioning what you’re actually seeing.
