This photograph, taken before 1889, depicts two marble sculptures from the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal in Antwerp and the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk in Kortrijk. The left sculpture is a depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, while the right sculpture is of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, holding a wheel, a symbol of her martyrdom. The artist, unfortunately, remains anonymous. These sculptures are excellent examples of the style and craftsmanship of medieval marble sculptures in the Low Countries.
