Editor: So, this is Stuart Davis’s "Art Theory Text with Color Diagram," and its date is unknown. It looks like ink on paper. The diagram is really intriguing, it gives me the impression of looking at an architect's notebook… What do you see in it? Curator: Well, it's Davis wrestling with the very mechanics of seeing, wouldn't you say? He’s using text and image – a one-two punch – to untangle how logic and observation collide in the artistic process. It's almost as if he's drawing a map of his own mind, which, I think, is terribly exciting. Editor: That makes a lot of sense. The "map of the mind" idea is quite revealing. Curator: Yes, and hopefully it helps us map our own!
