Pauselijke zegening 1838 - 1839

"Pauselijke zegening," an 1838-1839 lithograph by Franciscus Bernardus Waanders depicts a Pope giving a blessing from a balcony. The scene is framed by an ornate border and appears to take place in a grand, columned building. The Pope is shown in full papal regalia, while figures below look up to him. Waanders was a Dutch artist known for his detailed depictions of religious and historical scenes, often using lithography as his medium. The work is now part of the collection at the Rijksmuseum.
