This is Yolande Delasser's 'Jug', made with what looks like watercolor and graphite on paper. The blue horse just seems to flow right out of the jug itself. There's something so immediate and playful about the way the horse is drawn; you can see the hand and the way it was made. It’s like a doodle but also so deliberate. It makes you wonder what Delasser was thinking as she made it. Was she just messing around, or was she really trying to capture something about the spirit of the horse itself? The texture of the jug looks grainy and tactile, like you could almost feel the clay. Then the horse, a vivid cobalt blue, is not just on the jug; it's part of it. That blue is so alive against the muted tones. It reminds me a little of Cy Twombly’s work – the way he lets the gesture be so present. It’s a reminder that art is just as much about the questions we ask as the answers we think we find.
