Heinrich Aldegrever made this minuscule engraving of two fighting centaurs amidst foliage, in Germany in 1529. This print speaks to the complex social and cultural shifts of the Renaissance. While the figures and theme are drawn from classical antiquity, the print's medium and style reflect the rise of printmaking as a powerful new form of artistic production and dissemination.
