Alexander Bogen made "Blue Construction" with, what looks like, oil paint. Bogen really lets us in on the process here. The blues are deep and varied, like looking into a twilight sky, but it’s the orange that zings! Look at those vertical lines cutting through the composition. They're like urgent signals. He’s not trying to hide anything, is he? The surface has this lovely, almost scrubbed texture, and the way he layers the paint, you can feel him working and reworking the surface, always searching. It reminds me of early de Kooning, but with a more somber, reflective mood. It's not just about the visual; it's about the feeling of building, of constructing, and maybe even deconstructing something, piece by piece. Art, like life, is an ongoing conversation. It’s never really finished, is it?
