This landscape scene was made by Ferdinandus, though we don't know exactly when. It depicts a landscape with a path and a house in the distance. I can imagine the artist setting up their easel, looking out at the view before them. The work might have been built up in layers, as if trying to solidify a distant memory. The artist is trying to capture a feeling, a moment in time, just like any of us. I know the feeling of being inspired by a landscape or a view. You can feel the weight of history in the landscape. There's a vulnerability to this landscape. Like the artist is searching for something, maybe a sense of home or connection. It reminds me a bit of the Barbizon school of landscape painters. Artists are always in conversation, finding inspiration in the world around them. I love this feeling of ongoing exchange.
